Character: Emergency Medical Holographic Program AK-1 Diagnostic and Surgical Subroutine Omega 323/EMH/The Doctor
Series/Fandom: Star Trek Voyager
Original or Alternate: Alternate
Barracks: Paj-Pente
Age: Appears around middle age, but age from when his program was first activated was 12.
Gender: Male
Species: Hologram
Sexuality: Heterosexual
Appearance: The doctor is around average height for a middle-aged man. He has a healthy complexion, clean-shaven, and partly bald, black haired head. However, he still has a sort of regal time attractiveness about him and could very easily be considered handsome. He is usually wearing a Starfleet uniform, green in his time. It takes altering his program to be otherwise. He also has dark brown eyes and a metal triangle on his upper left arm.

Personality: The Doctor is very sarcastic, a bit arrogant, and very pushy. He is sometimes lacking the ability to be tactful with people and sometimes his bedside manner is lacking. However, even when he does mess up a bit with his bedside manner, he is always honest on a person's condition unless there is a need to keep it secret. A man of moral ethnics of the highest quality, he always tried to avoid harm to any living creature. Since he has evolved beyond his programming though, there are times where he does something that may appear unsavory in the act alone without the situation is considered. He is also a man of art and sophistication. He loves to sing, paint, dance, and write. He is also very opinionated and always looking for ways to do everything he possibly can, even pushing himself beyond what he is capable.

Abilities/Strengths: First and foremost, The Doctor is a doctor. Though he is only a program, he has made several new techniques for surgery and finding cures. Some of the things he has discovered would, as he says, would get him the highest honor in medicine, even the Nobel prize, if he were anything, but a hologram. That is to say, he's a great doctor.

He is a hologram. Though he is made of hard light, if someone were to attack him, he could make it so the attack would just go through him. Also, depending on whether the emitter for his program is a room emitter or his mobile emitter, he could go through walls. With his mobile emitter, he can't, but he can reach through things with his hands. He also doesn't need to breathe and if something doesn't affect his emitter, he isn't affected either by things like radiation.

He has a universal translator in his subroutines, so he can understand any language. Because he, himself, is a program, he can understand machines as well if they have enough of an intelligence to speak.

Also, because he is a program, if he knows something, he is able to dig it out of his memory rather quickly. It just takes finding it and it will be remembered right if the file did not degrade.

He has an excellent singing voice, can dance very well, is a skilled photographer, painter, and is an excellent writer. So much so he has had a book published.

Since he has evolved beyond his program, he has also started to rule other things beyond just doctor work. Such things as engineering, battle tactics, star charts, and many other things that can be useful on a star ship. All of this is basic fact from minds he has downloaded from the ship of great men and things he has researched himself. He also is getting pretty extensive knowledge about Borg machinery he has learned from Seven of Nine.

He is able to alter his program to appear as someone else and sound like them. He can shut himself on and off. He can also interface with other machines and be transferred as data. He also has high securities made for his program, designed by him and Seven of Nine.

Being a program, he cannot grow old or die and as long as his emitter is kept up to date and well taken care of, he will be fine. He is also growing more and more beyond his program and literally become very much 'human.' In fact, his interest in getting holograms to be recognized as living, sentient beings, he is developing ways for them to have sensory feelings. Though holograms can already touch things, they cannot feel, smell, or taste. He is working on ways to make it so they can and possibly, even make a way for them to have children. However, all he has are prototypes.

Weapons: Well, he can reach into people and do something to mess with their organs, but he doesn't really have weapons.

Weaknesses: No matter how human The Doctor appears, he is still a hologram, and therefore, a machine. He is thus affected by things that affect machines. If there is an energy surge in his program, he will shut down. His program can be damaged, hacked, and altered by those with the skills to do so.

He is also bound to emitters. He cannot go anywhere without his mobile emitter on his arm. If his program crashes with the emitter, he may very well lose all his data and, for the lack of a better term, die. If the emitter is damaged itself, he can stay in there, but he will not be rebooted until it is repaired. The mobile emitter has an internal power source, but if it's taken, it must be recharged or he will stay shut down.

He also has the tendency to overdo things. Because he has downloaded the minds of such and such and so and so, he believes he can do as they do. However, unless given the chance to gain experience, he is very textbook in his answers and this has a tendency to lead to bad things.

The Doctor is a bit of an egoist. He sees himself as greater than he is. He has, of course, done remarkable things, but he always thinks he can do something he truly can't do and he often refuses to believe he can't until he fails.

The Doctor may also have a hard time understanding other people. He has had a short life and though he has experienced a lot of things, he sometimes can't understand how people could see something a way different from what he thinks.

There is also the prejudiced that, since he's merely a hologram, people will only see him as a piece of equipment and won't respect him as a sentient being. He has worked to get rid of this prejudice of those on Voyager, but sometimes he encounters it again in people who refuse to see holograms can be just the same as people.

The Doctor will not harm a living being. The only time he has done serious harm to any living being without his program being tampered was to save many more lives by forcing a change in policy in a hospital and even then, he felt the guilt of the act. He refuses to take a life and if he can save a life, he will do everything he can to save it.

(From the Mods)
- Stipulation - Anyone who attempts to mess with his Holo-Emitter (even the Doctor himself) gets cuffed the same as if they were trying to hack the Indigeo.

History: "State the Nature of the Medical Emergency." Those were the first words the Doctor spoke as he was activated on Voyager after they were transported to the Delta Quadrant. He had people who needed medical attention. However, both the head doctor and nurse were killed in the transport through the wormhole and he became Chief Medical Officer. So began The Doctor's life.

At first, The Doctor merely acted as he was. A hologram who was to help the sick and injured of Voyager. He had no ability to leave Sickbay or the holodecks of the ship and others had to turn his program on and off. He hadn't truly experienced any real feel of humanity until he took on Kes as his nurse. Kes, who saw The Doctor as more than a hologram, started to teach him ways to act more human. Kes did many things to help The Doctor, even getting him the right to turn on his program himself or to turn it off. With Kes' help, The Doctor started to develop his own personality and relations with the people of Voyager. The Doctor explored the humanity in himself, doing many experiments such as programming himself with a cold and making a hologram family. Though, it was with the help of his friends, such as Torres, Paris, and Kes, that he really experienced the human condition.

When Kes chose to leave the ship, he was torn up, but he did eventually understand she had a right to explore her powers. He took on Paris as his nurse. He didn't often get along with Paris, but they were indeed close friends. Tom Paris helped the Doctor through many of his problems. It was because of Paris that The Doctor faced his holo-family while the daughter was dying and Paris was the one to make him see how Photons Be Free, the book The Doctor wrote, made people feel.

The Doctor is to thanks for many missions being successful and many problems being solved on the ship. The Doctor is unaffected by most things that affect normal people and is therefore able to give warning. His program can be transferred long distances that he was able to tell the Federation Voyager was still alive and even save Lewis Zimmerman, the man who created him. Once he got his Mobile Emitter, he was sent on away missions and able to help when there were areas people couldn't go, such as places filled with radiation or a temporal distortion.

The Doctor is also the one to help Seven of Nine to gain the appearance she has today. He removed every implant he could that she didn't need to survive and wouldn't put her life at risk. The Doctor taught Seven many things about being human and in turn, she has defended his humanity and is probably the person he sees him most as a person. Though there were a few women he has loved in his life, Seven was different. Though he'd never forget Freya, Doctor Denara, his holo-family, or Mareeza, Seven was different. In Seven, there was a kindred spirit. They even both enjoyed singing! And they were a beautiful duet, in his opinion.

However, he never got a chance to tell her his feelings. After Seven had helped the Borg if the Unimartrix, a place where certain Borg regain individuality in their regeneration, the Borg Queen had sent several cubes after Voyager. Too many for the ship to handle.

Harry Kim, Tom Paris, B'Elanna Torres, Neelix, and Naomi Wildman were the only ones to escape the destruction of the ship by keeping up the changes in their shields to avoid detection. It was luck alone that Naomi Wildman had a house call with The Doctor for a cold and had grabbed the Emitter when the Borg attack had caused the Emitter to be knocked offline after he fell into a table.

It was about a week after the Borg attack they returned to the scene of the battle after getting help from a nearby planet. They confirmed then that Voyager was destroyed.

However, there was also a small scout ship of the Borg they found with a Transwarp coil in tact and the six survivors made it to Earth. They were welcomed with open arms and a huge celebration for their return and a funeral for those who had died.

Six years after their return, The Doctor made a name for himself as one of the most brilliant doctors around and a well-noted activist. The Doctor never gave up on getting the holograms their rights and has even made great breakthroughs in improving the realness in holograms with Torres. He has even installed a subroutine that has given him a sense of touch, taste, and smell. Though these senses are dull, he's working to improve them even more.

He has not married, still regretful of not telling Seven his feelings, and though he has gone on dates, he's found no one with that same spark. He also has not come up with a name. Though he has tried several different names, he still cannot decide on the perfect name for him. So all his work is always patented under Doctor EMH Mark One. After all, he is the only one still a Doctor.

Unfortunately, life for him has clearly been too peaceful and he has been pulled to Econtra.
